Place the mountain on the map
The name of a mountain appears: click its location on the map.
10 questions per game, 100 points at most. Help halves the points.
Locate peaks and ranges by clicking on the map
"Place the mountain on the map" asks you to locate a peak or a range at its exact position. The name appears, for example Mont Blanc or Kilimanjaro, or a large range such as the Andes, and you click where it sits on the world map. It is a geography game for learning where the world's mountains are.
A click inside the marker's zone earns 10 points, and a click outside earns 0. The zone is smaller for a peak than for a large range, and wider when the play area is large. A help circle, which contains the answer, halves the points. After the answer, the game says "Inside the zone" or "Outside the zone" and, outside the zone, shows the distance in kilometers. It is aimed at those who want to locate mountains on the map rather than name them.
How to play
- Start with the zone: a continent, or the whole world, then the number of questions, ten by default.
- Read the name of the mountain or range shown, then find it on the world map.
- Zoom with the mouse wheel or the plus and minus buttons, drag the map to move it, then click at the exact spot.
- Read the points earned and, outside the zone, the distance in kilometers, then move on to the next question.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you need an account to place mountains on the map?
- No, the game is free and without an account. The record is saved in the browser, per game and per zone. A free account, which is optional, adds other features of the site, such as the Elo ranking.
- How many points does a click earn?
- A click inside the marker's zone earns 10 points, and a click outside earns 0 points. The hint halves the points. A round has ten questions by default, or more with the choice of twenty, fifty or All questions in the zone.
- Why is the accepted distance not the same everywhere?
- It is smaller for a peak than for a large range, such as the Andes or the Himalayas, and wider when the zone is large, such as the whole world. The game thus adjusts the tolerance to the size of what you have to place.
- How can you aim precisely on the map?
- Zoom in with the mouse wheel, a pinch, or the plus and minus buttons, then move the map by dragging it. The help circle, however, contains the answer, and the points are then halved.
