Matching flags and countries in as few moves as possible
The flag memory game is a free matching pairs game: cards lie face down, and you match each flag with the name of its country by flipping two cards at a time, using as few moves as possible.
You choose 6, 8 or 10 pairs, which is 12, 16 or 20 cards. The countries are drawn from 50 countries whose flags are well known. The best number of moves for each size is kept in your browser, with no account. The game complements the geography flag games, where you type the name of the country.
How to play
- Choose the number of pairs: 6, 8 or 10.
- Flip two cards at a time: a flag and a country name.
- If the flag and the name go together, the pair stays visible; otherwise both cards turn face down again.
- Keep going until you find all the pairs, then compare your number of moves with your best result.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a move?
- A move is two cards flipped, whether or not they form a pair. The score is the number of moves needed to find all the pairs: the fewer, the better.
- What is the minimum number of moves?
- The theoretical minimum equals the number of pairs, that is 6, 8 or 10 moves, but you would have to never make a mistake. Remembering where the cards you have already seen are reduces the number of moves.
- Do I need an account to play?
- No. The game is free and needs no account. The best number of moves for each size is kept in your browser, with no sign-up.
- How can I learn flags faster?
- Playing the geography flag game, where you type the name of the country, helps you remember each flag. The guide Remembering capitals and flags also offers methods based on families of flags.
