The Sports theme brings together the individual and team disciplines that people play and follow around the world: athletics, swimming, rugby, cycling, tennis, combat sports, winter sports and motor racing. It covers rules, equipment, playing fields, legendary events such as the Tour de France or the marathon, and the figures who shaped the history of each discipline.
The Sports quizzes are free: five levels from very easy to expert, and an explanation shown after each answer so that the rules stick as well as the anecdotes. Football and the Olympic Games each have a dedicated theme of their own.

A marathon is run over 42.195 km (26 miles 385 yards). The distance was officially set in 1921, based on the marathon at the 1908 London Olympics. The event recalls the legend of the Greek messenger said to have run from Marathon to Athens.
A rugby union team has 15 players on the field: eight forwards, who contest scrums and lineouts among other things, and seven backs, who mainly build attacks and move the ball along the line. Rugby sevens, by contrast, is played with seven players per side.
A triathlon links three disciplines without a break: swimming, cycling and then running. Distances vary with the format. In an Ironman, athletes cover about 3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and then a full marathon.
