Society quizzes

Politics, economy, law

Society gathers the questions that shape life together: the economy (GDP, inflation, unemployment, trade), law (justice, contracts, rights and duties), politics and institutions, human rights, education, work and major international bodies such as the United Nations or the European Union. You will meet founding texts too, from the 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.

This theme, which includes the Politics sub-theme, suits anyone who wants to follow the news and understand how a society organizes itself. Each quiz is free, can be played on five levels from very easy to expert, and ends every answer with an explanation.

Frequently asked questions about Society

What is GDP and what does it measure?

Gross domestic product measures the value of all goods and services produced within a territory over a given period, usually a year. It is the most common indicator for comparing the size of economies, but it does not capture well-being, inequality or environmental damage.

What is the difference between civil law and criminal law?

Civil law governs relations between people: family matters, contracts, property and liability. Criminal law defines offenses and their penalties, and the state prosecutes offenders on behalf of society. One and the same event can sometimes fall under both.

When was the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted?

It was adopted on 10 December 1948 in Paris, at the Palais de Chaillot, by the United Nations General Assembly. Its 30 articles state that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. The declaration is not, in itself, a binding treaty.
